how it all started
Jill Blocker started Happy Paws Pet Nanny in 2010! Before we had our wonderful App, Time to Pet, we actually scheduled all visits by email and phone communications. We also left hand written notes in a journal that each client had to give a recap of our visits with our client’s pets. Oh how times have changed, for the better!
Happy Paws was started after Jill’s family was in the Military and lived in many different places, with no family near and didn’t know very many people to help care for their pup. Her little yorkie mix, Roxy, was an anxious liltle doggie and tore her hair out when they boarded her once. After that, they hired an amazing company to help with their petcare and loved how easy it was for them to travel. It truly was a peace of mind to have a trusted, trained and friendly company that could help care for Roxy when Jill and her family were away. Once Jill and her family were able to settle and plant roots in Virginia, Jill decided to start her happy, trusted and professional pet care services.

Jill Blocker started Happy Paws Pet Nanny in 2010! Before we had our wonderful app, Time to Pet, we actually scheduled all visits by email and/or phone communications. We also left our clients a handwritten note in a journal to recap each visit with their pet(s). Oh, how times have changed, for the better, with the modernized method of scheduling and client updates!
The idea of Happy Paws is owed to Jill’s little yorkie mix, Roxy, who was an anxious pup who tore her hair out when they boarded her once while living in Arizona. Once Jill and her family were able to settle down, after years of moving as a military family, they planted roots in Virginia. Jill was inspired to open a business of trusted and trained professionals to alleviate pet (and owners) anxieties by providing in-home services. She decided to start her own happy, trusted, and professional in-home pet care business, and from that, Happy Paws Pet Nanny was founded.
In 2016, Jill met Jess! Jess started as a Pet Nanny, then was promoted as a Head Walker and from there she was promoted into a Manager. In 2022, Jill decided to move onto new adventures and sold the business to Jess. Jill is still very much a part of our Happy Paws family and works as a Pet Nanny when she can since she loves it so much!

I’ve been with Happy Paws since 2016, with a year or two “off” while recovering from back surgery, and have loved every single day of it! If you see me out-and-about, I’ll be covered in dog and cat hair, my own hair will be up because I’m having a hot flash, and I’m probably driving a kid to a sports practice. I’m an early bird, so chances are pretty good I’ll be seeing your fur babies for breakfast and early morning walkies while you’re on vacation. Here at home, I have 2 German Shepherd Lab mixes, 2 kitties, a bunny, and a snake, all of which are totally spoiled rotten! My incredible husband is a PWC Firefighter, our two incredible human children are teenagers, we all narrate the thoughts of our pets, we have specific voices for each of them, and we’ll give up our seats on the sofa when asked by one of our fur babies.
